2005 fishing season
Jan 2005-  All the rivers around Talkeetna are currently locked up with ice.  In just a few short months the ice will fade and the trout will begin their search for the food they have been lacking throughout the winter months.  Come back again when the fishing season gets into full swing for more detailed fishing reports and to see current water conditions and daily pictures of On The Fly's catches.

Feb 2005-  Only 4 more months till the Rainbows start hitting! 5 below 0 today.
March 2005- March has been filled with nice weather.  Very warm and the snow has even started to melt a little bit, making the 2 remaining months of winter seem a little more drawn out.  Oh well I still need some more time at my fly tying vise to get caught up for the summer.

April 2005- The snow is melting fast and a there is a few stretches of open water on the rivers here in Talkeetna.  The end of winter is in sight but there is still about 5 ft of snow on the ground.  It is shaping up to be a great spring.  Fishing is only a few weeks away!

April 24, 2005-  The ice is starting to break up and fish are starting to be caught!  High volumes or rain have made for bad conditions over the weekend but fishing should pick up by the mid week.  Check back for the first photos of 2005 I will be posting them as soon as I catch some fish.  Look for them this weekend.

May 1, 2005-  High temperatures and spring runoff are making the fishing difficult.  I am hoping for better water by the weekend.  Big flies will be the ticket for big fish when the water levels get back to normal.

May 12, 2005-  The water came down for a few days and the fishing was good.  But, the past four days have been too sunny and the river is high and dirty.

June 11, 2005

Fishing for King Salmon on the Deshka River on Friday was good.  We fished starting at 9:00 PM and finished at 5:00 AM.  The fishing was best from around 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM.  The bite shut off at around 1:30 AM.  We picked up fish using spin-n-glows and salmon eggs.  Other boats in the area picked up a few fish using #6 Vibrax spinners.  In all we hooked 12 Kings and managed to bring 8 of those to the net.  Fishing should continue to get better as more Kings arrive into the system.

Fishing on the Talkeetna River is still very slow.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a few Kings in the next couple of days.
