Alaska Trout
Rainbow Trout are available from when the river ice breaks-up (late April) until ice-up in the fall  (October).  The best fishing is in the spring and in the late fall.  The largest trout are normally caught in the fall just before the river freezes. Both the Talkeetna and Susitna River offer excellent chances to catch trophy fish.  Anglers typically catch Rainbows in the 15-24 inch range.  The average Rainbow landed is around 18 inches an exceptional fish will be in the 24-30 inch range.  Rainbows can be caught on both spinning and fly tackle. Fly fishing usually accounts for the most fish when the Rainbows are gorging themselves on salmon eggs.

Dolly Varden, and Arctic Grayling will be caught right along- side the Rainbows.  Dolly Varden are excellent fighters, and prefer to stay "down and deep", compared to the more acrobatic Rainbows. Dolly Varden and Grayling will add excitement to your Talkeetna fishing experience.
