On The Fly Outfitters offers both full
and half day guided fishing charters on the Talkeetna
and Susitna river systems for all 5 species of Pacific
Salmon and Trout.
By far the largest fish in the water is
the King (Chinook) Salmon. Kings arrive in the
Talkeetna area in June and can be caught until mid July.
King Salmon average 20-25lbs, however it is not uncommon
to catch larger fish in the 50-60lb class!
Kings will often run hundreds of yards during the course
of a fight, so heavy tackle is the key to landing them.
Kings are best fished with spinning or casting tackle,
although opportunities to take these monsters on a fly
are available during certain times of the season.
What the smaller salmon lack in size
they make up for in shear numbers. Thousands of
Silver (Coho), Red (Sockeye), Chum (Dog) and Pink
(Humpy) Salmon can be found in the rivers from mid July
until the end of August. These fish average 8-9lbs
and can be caught up to 15lbs. These salmon are
hard and aggressive fighters willing to bite! Both
spinning and fly tackle can take these beauties at any
time.
